Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree is almost upon us and developer Primal Game Studios have revealed a brand new trailer showing off the Talent Tree system.
Featuring six diverse starter classes at launch, Mandragora will allow players to mix and match skills and abilities from multiple talent trees once they reach a certain XP level, with the first new class available at level 25.
This new trailer deep dives into the way talent trees work in Mandragora, allowing you to shape your Inquisitor any way you wish to better survive the horrors of Faelduum. Check it out below:
With a story by Brian Mitsoda (Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines), Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree is a huge, challenging 2D Metroidvania that feels like a middle point between Salt & Sanctuary and No Rest for the Wicked. We said in our preview:
Each class feels very different, with each dealing out a unique damage over time element. The Nightshade applies poison, the Vanguard has an attack that causes enemies to bleed, and the Spellbinder inflicts Weakness. The emphasis then is on hitting and dodging, either hopping back or rolling through enemies, while the Vanguard has a block or parry that feels tricky but is satisfying when you nail it.
Combat skills are learned from books or from defeating certain enemies, while each of the sprawling talent trees contains multiple nodes across 200 active skill upgrades, to increase your stats and add modifiers to certain abilities and actions. It’s a robust, highly malleable system, backed up by the option to equip two sets of weapons at any time for quicker switching during fights.
With so much scope for customisation and build crafting, there will be something to suit every playstyle when Mandragora launches later this month.
Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree is due to launch on PC, PS5, and Xbox on April 17 2025. Visit the official site for more information.
