As with most Monster Hunter games, Monster Hunter Wilds truly begins after the story credits roll and you enter the High Rank portion of the game, with tougher monsters and an endless grinding loop of self-improvement and hunting tougher monsters. As is also tradition, this unlocks new materials to farm, in this case “Artian” materials which in turn allow you to forge Artian weapons, powerful gear that comes with an attached element that you decide based on which materials you use to craft it. Of course, this being Monster Hunter, it’s not always clear how the system works, so we’ve put together a handy guide to help you craft and upgrade Artian Weapons.
MONSTER HUNTER WILDS ARTIAN WEAPONS | WHAT ARE THEY?
Described by Blacksmith Gemma as “ancient technology”, Artian Weapons use incredibly rare materials and can be designed by the individual Hunter to bear a specific element, and to be stronger in either raw Attack power or Affinity. They are some of the best general weapons in the endgame, though are still beaten out by some of the Rarity 8 gear.
HOW DO I UNLOCK ARTIAN WEAPONS?
First you need to finish the Low Rank portion of Monster Hunter Wilds, signified by the credits sequence. After that, Gemma will offer you the service when you visit her after defeating your first Tempered Monster.
WHERE DO I GET ARTIAN MATERIALS?
Artian materials drop from Tempered monsters in the following types: Broken Blade, Crushed Tube, Cracked Disc, Rusted Device.
They come in Rarities 6, 7, and 8, with 8 currently only available from fighting Tempered Arkveld. You can search monsters on the map to see if they drop Artian materials, and once beaten they can be saved as repeatable Investigations from the Field Survey section of the Quest menu.
WHAT MATERIALS DO I NEED?
You’ll need 3 parts for each weapon you craft. They all come with either a status ailment or element build-up. Whichever is the dominant ailment or element will transfer to the weapon, with the strongest achieved by using three parts of the same type. If all parts are different types, the weapon will be an element-less raw damage weapon. Each part also has either an Attack or Affinity boost.
The parts needed for each weapon are listed below:
- Greatsword: Blade, Blade, Tube
- Sword and Shield: Blade, Tube, Disc
- Hammer: Disc, Disc, Tube
- Lance: Blade, Disc, Disc
- Switch Axe: Blade, Blade, Device

- Hunting Horn: Disc, Device, Device
- Gun Lance: Disc, Disc, Device
- Charge Blade: Blade, Disc, Device

HOW DO I UPGRADE ARTIAN WEAPONS?
You upgrade Monster Hunter Wilds Artian Weapons using special ore obtained through quest rewards, mining, Festival Shares, Item Trading, or breaking down other Artian weapons. Each weapon has five upgrade levels, and reaching level 5 will unlock a random set of stat boosts that make the weapon better overall.
After completing the main story quest Chapter 2-4: The Long-Forgotten Flame you will unlock the Smelting Forge and the ability to smelt monster parts into the upgrade materials you need to Reinforce Artian weapons.
