The Shelter is an outer room in Blue Prince, where you will come across a Safe that you’ll be keen to unlock. By this point in your adventure, you’re likely curious as to what’s inside, and you’d be right to be so. Unlocking safes allows you to piece together more of the puzzles and history that surround Mount Holly and the Sinclair family. Here at Loot Level Chill, we’ve spent hours on Blue Prince, and have unlocked all the safes in the game. As such we know a thing or two about how they operate. Read on to discover how you unlock the Shelter Safe in Blue Prince.
SPOILER WARNING
As with most things in Blue Prince, part of the fun is self-discovery, and below this spoiler warning we will be revealing plenty of secrets of the game. We encourage you to try and find out the solutions to puzzles on your own to get the full experience of Blue Prince. Only read on if you do not mind some of those secrets being spoiled.
Please bear in mind that some of these spoilers are for later in the game than some of our other guides, and spoil significant puzzles and areas you may not have discovered on your own. You have been warned.
Where is the Shelter?
The Shelter isn’t a standard room, it is an Outer Room and therefore in order to access it you need to have unlocked the West Gate Path Permanent Addition. To do this, you can click here to find out all about how. Once that is unlocked you may draw the Shelter as one of your three random Outer Rooms, from which you can pick one. When you draw it, head inside and down the stairs, and you will find a small room, with a Terminal and the safe next to it.
What clues are there?
The Terminal here is where you need to go. And then you need to select the first option which is the Time-Lock Safe. You can then go to Set Unlock Date. In this section you can set the time and date you want the Safe to open. The best day, would of course, be the day you are on. But do we know the date? The time also has to be at least one hour ahead of the current time.
What is the code for the Shelter Safe in Blue Prince?
There are a few clues in the mansion which allude to the time. The Calendar in the Drafting Studio told us that “Day One” was November 7th, so depending on what game day you are on now, you can work out the current date. Alternatively, the Library will always note the current date once you order a book, it will be stamped with the date you read it, for another frame of reference.
Once you’re clear on the date, input it into the computer, and then you can put in the time you wish the safe to unlock. It HAS to be at least an hour from the current time. Your closest point of reference to the current time is the big clock on the front of the mansion. Each day starts at 8am, and an in-game hour takes about 8 minutes, so unless you have taken your time to get to the Shelter, and input the date, it should be before 9am, therefore putting in 11am (as you can only put in times rounded to the hour) will be at least an hour in the future.
If you are unsure of the time, and want to be safe, go and check outside and return, remembering to add at least an hour on with your opening hour. You’ll now have a wait somewhere between 1 and 2 hours of game time depending on the current time. This is between 8 and 16 minutes. It is up to you whether you wait, or head inside the mansion to do some room drafting. The Shelter Safe will stay open for 4 in-game hours (32 minutes) so it is relatively safe to do so. Once the time is reached, the Shelter Safe will unlock and swing open automatically.
As with all the safes in Blue Prince, we receive a Red Letter, this one has a number 7 in Roman Numerals on it and is a letter from Courtney writing to her Uncle about Mary’s disappearance. There is also, as usual, a Gem inside.
Congratulations you have opened the Shelter Safe in Blue Prince.
