Monster Hunter Wilds Rathalos | How to beat
General Info
Name: Rathalos
Monster Type: Flying Wyvern
Known Habitats: Forest, Basin, Wyveria
Characteristics:
Fearsome male wyverns known as the “Kings of the Skies.” Alongside the Rathian, they stake out a wide territory around their nests, and it is the male’s role to watch from above. Armed with powerful poisonous claws and fiery breath, Rathalos use their aerial prowess to descend on invaders.
Special Attack: Weak Roar, Minor Wind Pressure, Fireblight, Poison.
Strategy
Weak Point: Mouth
Breakables: Wings x2
Tail Sever: Yes
Helpful Hints:
The formidable King of the Skies will be another familiar face to Monster Hunter veterans, as well as those who have already tackled the Guardian variant. The traditional Rathalos fights in a very similar manner, relying much more of flame attacks this time around. Be ready for multiple fireballs, and area-of-effect burning to contend with. As with most flying wyverns, the Flash Pods should still be used to bring them to the ground. You can then focus on the Head as its weak point, or the Tail for the sever and carve. Also bear in mind the Rathalos may have a helper in the form of a Rathian swoop in if they’re nearby to help out. Dung Pods can dispose of her to leave you with just one wyvern to deal with.
Weaknesses
Weapons: The Head area is the weakest, for all weapon types.
Effects: Fireblight is nullified completely, and the Legs cannot be inflicted with Waterblight or Iceblight either. Dragonblight is slightly effective is you wish to inflict such an effect.
Elements: Thunder or Dragon-element weapons are the most effective.
Status Effects: All status effects are possible and are quite effective, with the exception of Poison which is less effective.
Items: Flash Pods and Traps will work.
