Nintendo has released a new post which details the launch titles for Switch 2, but also confirms exactly which original Switch games will have free upgrades.
We already knew that the likes of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, Sid Meier’s Civilization VII – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, and Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma Nintendo Switch 2 Edition were coming, but there are numerous original Switch games getting a free update to make them run even better, or look better on Switch 2, and now we have that full list for June 5th.
So let’s get into it, then:
- Pokémon Scarlet
- Pokemon Violet
- New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
- Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
- Super Mario Odyssey
- The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening
- The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
- Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
- Game Builder Garage
- 51 Worldwide Games
- ARMS
- Big Brain Academy: Brain Vs. Brain
Some of these are going to be obvious what the free updates to. The Pokemon titles, for example, struggled on the original console, so the textures and frame rate will surely have a nice bump.
It’s slightly less clear, however, what kind of update titles like Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker will be getting. The guess is that resolution will increase, since the Nintendo Switch 2 can do 4K resolution now.
There are, obviously, some omissions from the list, and here’s hoping games like Mario & Luigi: Brothership get an update, as that had some frame rate issues, especially as it was near the end of the life of the original console. Elsewhere, RAIDOU Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army will be getting a Switch 2 edition as well, which is nice to see. There will also be numerous GameCube games coming as part of the new console’s lineup, as well.
Nintendo Switch 2 is launching on June 5th.
