Monster Hunter Wilds Balahara | How to beat

General Info

Name: Balahara
Monster Type: Leviathan
Known Habitats: Plains
Characteristics:
Desert-dwelling leviathans that build carapaces out of fulgurite formed by lightning strikes. They use their flexible skeletons and serpentine bodies to create quicksand traps for unwary prey. Inside their mouths are multiple eye-like sensory organs. The mucus they secrete contains luminous bacteria and is believed to aid visibility while they are submerged and other low-light conditions like sandstorms
Special Attack: Waterblight

Strategy

Weak Point: Mouth
Breakables: Head
Tail Sever: Yes
Helpful Hints:
The Balahara will fight you in the sand, making the terrain tricky to begin with. It is quick in its attacks, so stay wary. You’ll find relative safety in between its two legs on either side of its body, allowing you to do damage to its body. You’ll still need to watch out for its mucus spit which can cause Waterblight if it hits, which will drain your stamina quickly if you don’t use a Nulberry. Successfully avoiding the mucus spit gives you a small window for a free wound attack on its mouth for extra damage if you can line it up correctly. Be on the lookout for when it does a move that causes a deep hole in the sand, you’ll want to run and dash out of it as soon as possible or be caught in its maw. Also note, you can sever the Balahara tail, so don’t forget to focus your attention there until it is lopped off.

Weaknesses

Weapons: Focus your weapons (all types are very strong) on the Head, Neck, and Tail. Use Blunt weapons for added damage.
Effects: None really to focus on. Waterblight is nullified.
Elements: Thunder-element weapons are the most effective.
Status Effects: All status effects are possible, but Paralysis works best.
Items: Flash Pods and traps will work. Sonic bombs also work very well against the Balahara.
